How to Label Fabric Bins
Most of the time when I’m helping clients with how to label fabric bins, I go with one of my tried and true bin clip favorites from The Container Store – and just slide them over the top lip of the bin.
But sometimes…there are fabric bins with these little circle cutouts at the top. And when they are cute and gold like these ones, I can’t convince myself to cover them up with a bin clip! So I decided to get creative and find a new solution. And you guys, I LOVE where we ended. So much so that I would replicate this on all kinds of fabric bins.
Wanna know how I did it? Keep reading, friend. I’m gonna walk you through it step by step.
The Materials
This project cost less than $20 to label 5 fabric bins. Seriously! I purchased two sets of these Like-It Label Holder 4-Packs from The Container Store. They sell the smaller labels I used as well as a larger option – and they are also available in black. And I got a pack of these velcro squares – enough for 2 per label.
The Plan
I started with my first label holder…here’s how I did it.
I put two velcro pieces that both have the soft side on them – one at each end of the label. I didn’t even take the adhesive piece off, but I guess you could.
I measured the distance between them on the label.
I measured that same distance on my bin and placed two velcro pieces that both have the scratchy side on them.
The Label
Using my label maker, I finished them off by printing my labels, and sticking them on underneath the protective plastic cover piece.
But here are a few other options that would work great too:
Hand write your labels using the piece of paper that comes with the label holders – it’s dual sided in case you change your mind in the future.
Get chalkboard tape + a chalk marker so you can more easily change your labels down the road.
And here’s a less expensive label maker that does the job just fine too.
Listen, do NOT let a little thing like which labels to choose hold you up from doing the thing!! Okay?!
The Reveal
Isn’t it SO classy?! Such a simple way to label fabric bins. Once you have the supplies, this project literally takes 20 minutes.
