Organizing for Holiday Baking

Home kitchen baking cookies organization

The holidays are quickly approaching and, like me, I’m sure you are already thinking about all the fun baking that will take place these next couple of months. So today, let’s chat about organizing for holiday baking. You in?!

Last year, my friend Jennifer {who is a phenomenal baker/cookie decorator} introduced me to the fine art of icing sugar cookies the pretty way. Little did I know, this new hobby came with lots of little accessories that I now needed to store in my kitchen. And being the organized person that I am, it was driving me crazy not having a system in place.

This is my son and I making cookies our very first time. My kids have LOVED getting to decorate cookies the “fancy” way with me.

The last time we did this I baked cookies just for the kids to decorate and this is what they came up with. They love piping the icing onto the cookies. And really just anything with sprinkles involved. Pretty cute, huh?

Where we started…

But back to the organize project at hand. I wish I had a “before” photo to show you what my baking drawer used to look like – I had cookie cutters in large baggies, accessories in smaller baggies, and I had it all stuffed into a deep drawer. Not impressive.

I first decided what containers I needed and how many of them. I had designated two deep drawers for all things baking. So I measured those and went to work shopping around my house first…because I typically have extra bins in my basement that need a new home.

I found several of these Amazon clear bins with flip lids (also available HERE at Walmart) that I literally use all over my house. They go on sale all the time where you can get 12 for about $20.

My favorite part – putting it all together!

And here’s how everything started fitting together.

In the second pic, you can see I have two clear mini bins inside to hold the piping tip covers + tips in place. I ended up separating cookie cutters by holiday or everyday so I can just pull out the ones I need when it’s time to bake cookies. And I lined up my sprinkles in this mesh drawer organizer.

So my two baking drawers ended up here…

Everything now has a purpose and a home. And I can easily see what I have and what I need to buy when it’s time to bake again. I finished off my organize for holiday baking by adding labels using my favorite label maker.

The cookies revealed

You most likely aren’t wondering…but in case you are, I don’t want to leave you hanging! We’ve done what we officially call the “fancy” cookies at house a total of five times now and here are the results. We have a long ways to go before they look like my friend Jennifer’s cookies, but they look better each time!
